Yesterday evening Michael was awarded some medals for his heroism from his Commander and Chief from Kansas, and the Major General from the Pentagon. He was awarded the Air Force Combat Action Medal, and the Purple Heart. My parents said this was a very moving experience as they watched everyone in the room stand at attention and pay their respects to Michael as he received these medals. Upon receiving them, Michael slowly lifted his hand and saluted the gentleman who were presenting him the awards. My parents were truely touched.
We all recognize the amazing man Michael is, and the sacrifice he has made, and will continue to make for our country. He truly is an American Hero.
Yesterday and today Michael has also been working with a physical therapist and was able to walk up and down the hallway for the first time. He needed some support, and walked very slowly, but he was thrilled to be up and out of the bed.
As Kally said in the previous post, Michael will be undergoing surgery on his right eye again tomorrow. Doctors will remove the remaining shrapnel, and will try to reattach the retina. The team of doctors are not optimistic, but we are praying for a miracle and intervention from the Lord.
Please pray specifically for this surgery tomorrow.

Michael,
ReplyDeleteWe cried as we read this post, well, to be real truthful we've cried as we've read each one of them. We cry because we feel the hurt your parents must feel because we are parents. We cry because we consider you one of our own. We cry because we are so proud of you! We cry as we rejoice to know you were honored with medals so well deserved. And, we cry to read of your special salute to your superiors, as well as, to your country you so valiantly served. We cry because you make us so proud as you continue with your bravery each day in another different yet very real battle. We cry because of the HUGE sacrifice you have made for us, for each one of us--your friends, your family, and your fellow countrymen. We cry as we pray for you each night. Michael,we want you to know that tonight, we follow your example of bravery and we dry up our tears as we stand to Salute You. We salute you and all the young men and young women such as yourself. We stand proud to know you and we will continue to proudly stand by your side as we all do our best to give back to you. We love you, Michael. See you real soon. P.S. How was the 23 flavors?? =)
Love, Dana & Allen

ReplyDeleteMichael,
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow active-duty Airman and active member of the Church, I want to thank you for your dedication, service, and example.
I have a good understanding of what it takes to serve in the USAF and in special ops.
I was made aware of your condition by other concerned USAF/LDS members...you are in our prayers.
God bless and God speed your recovery!
-Mike, TSgt, USAF
