Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

  1. I will be there for you Michael. I will have the Wounded Warrior Project Mustang all waxed and on display. I hope to have the trunk filled with red canvas bags. I have been hand stensiling canvas shopping bags, T-shirts. with the WWP logo on them, I will also be adding coffee mugs, banners, buttons, military related items, etc, to be auctioned off. I plan to offer at least 20 bags. All in all I will guess to bring in about $1000. That's my goal. It will be exciting to learn what might happen at the fundraising event. Michael, You are in my thoughts with every bag I paint. Each bag takes about 2 hours. I will keep you posted as to the developments. JIMMY
