Second, the blue thing Michael is holding in the previous post is a cool puzzle one of his friends purchased for him. The white thing is a shaft that twists and turns to come out of the housing. It takes a lot of concentration and memory to figure out. He's about halfway there already.
Today was a good day (again!). Pretty much the same old stuff with one new twist. We told the physical therapists he wanted to climb the wall. They were a little hesitant at first but acknowledged his successes so far and relented. The wall is set up with three levels of difficulty. They took him to the first level and put him in his climbing harness. A therapist climbed with him to offer guidance. When they said go, off he went! He went up the wall like a spider monkey with very little input and the entire room broke out in applause when he reached the top. They said he could move over to the next level tomorrow. He's looking forward to it. After the wall, he spent ten minutes on the elliptical and another ten on a stationary bike with the resistance turned up a notch. Notice the "Silver Creek Spartan" shirt he's wearing thanks to the fifth grade class from Troy, IL.
After the workout, he came back to his room for a nice hot shower. It was the first time he could shower in his room. To do it, I had to borrow a Leatherman and steal a handheld showerhead from a room down the hall. The nurses like us and didn't say anything as I wandered around dragging plumbing appliances behind me. I promised to put it back before we leave so they aren't too concerned. (Having been raised by a plumber has it advantages.)
Until tomorrow - thanks again and don't forget to say your prayers!

Jim,
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to read these updates with a huge smile on my face. We love hearing how brave Michael is and how he seems to have no limit to what he can do! It's also nice to see what a handyman his dad is. :-) Michael and your family are AMAZING! You all have touched our hearts and changed our lives. There isn't a day that goes by when my family and I don't think about you guys. As always, our prayers are with you.

Lassie you're a ROCKSTAR! I think we all need new shirts that say 'I wanna climb like Mike!' It's got a nice ring to it right?!
ReplyDeleteChris and the guys were out in the field on a CAS TDY when I told him he had to get on his phone and check out this update-they were all beyond words.
We're heading to Milford this weekend to check out a new repelling/ascending tower-care to give us some lessons? ;-) We'll be thinking of you anticipating the day we climb together again.
Keep inspiring, Mike-
You and your family are simply awesome.
