Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

There will be cake!

     Monday, May 24th

What a day! We started off the day at ten at the Flying Star up on Paseo and Wyoming to meet the photographer. After one wrong exit we made the meeting and the photographer Sophia showed Jesse some of her work and some of the extra things they offer. We talked about what we wanted and got everything all set for the wedding. After that we sped to our next appointment to get the wedding dress altered. Jesse tried it on but would not let me touch her while she wore it. Something about spoiling the surprise. A few more wrong turns and we found ourselves at Cake Fetish sampling some very awesome cake. We got everything decided on and ordered so there will be cake! After the cake shop and a fast stop at the mall we made our last appointment at the flower shop and Jesse picked out all of her arrangements. We were finished with everything by three in the afternoon. Today was one of the most productive days we have had. We were very concerned about how Kae would handle all of the going and for the most part she did fantastic. There were a few speed bumps but she did great. At all of our stops we tried to collect all of the Abq Journals we could find since we woke up this morning to a big picture of ourselves on the front page. We only managed to find four but the author of the article told us he  could save us a few. All in all it was a fantastic day. We got a lot done and only got lost a few times. Thank you all for reading and look forward to the open house because Jesse picked some delicious cake!

our last stop, the florist, Kae was starting to get tired of it all. She was a champ though!

  1. Congratulations to you three! What a special day ... a little hectic but survivable. Thanks for keeping up the blog. So glad to hear from you and how you are all doing! Have you gone to the VA yet? I work at the VA - would love to meet you guys if you are ever in the area. I imagine you will be just around the corner from me as the eye clinic and my clinic (Speech) have the same waiting area! Best wishes for a peaceful and thankful Memorial Day - will be thinking of you and other veterans this day.
