Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

Lots of fun visitors this weekend.

This weekend has been a busy one.  For starters, Michael decided he has had enough of the wiskers and with a little help from his dad, it all came off.  His sisters are happy about that.

Two of Michael's sisters and their dad are here for the weekend.  You can't go to Palo Alto, California without visiting the beach right?

Here we are at Stanford University enjoying the sounds, smells, and beautiful buildings.

Around the VA hospital is a walking path and along this path are stops with different kind of exercise equipment.  Here we are trying out the equipment.

Other visitors this weekend were the wives of some of Michael's buddies whose husbands were killed when Michael was injured.  Here he is holding little Chloe and she is obviously not to happy.

But look here, Michael knew what to do.
Michael is deeply grateful to all of you have been supportive and kind.  He mentioned when he gets out of here it will take him at least six months just to go around saying thank you to all of you.
