A good, good day. First doctor visit was to the eye doctor where some more stiches were removed. He also met with the doctor who will be making him some prostetic eyes. He told Michael about all the different styles of eyes he's made; Mickey Mouse, a flower, cat eyes, etc. etc. and. of course, regular looking eyes. Michael is thinking of getting one set of "regular" eyes and then a fun set. He thought it would be fun to get suggestions from people to see what they'd come up with so let us know if you have any. These are the pictures we took while he was there.
Another doctor visit was even better than the eye doctor. It was the visit to the ENT (ear, nose, throat) to remove the last of the wires and the arch bars in his mouth. The doctor warned him that it was painful and said Michael could choose to be put under general anistesia in an operating room or just numbed there in the office and getting it done there. Michael's choice, not surprisingly, was "do it here and do it now". It took about an hour and Michael said it really did hurt. It ranked right up there with the pain of getting his stomach tube removed which was pretty bad. His mouth was throbbing for a few hours but he said it was worth it. He is so happy to get rid of all that wax and stainless steal in his mouth. Best of all, those sores in his mouth can finally have a chance to heal. Here he is getting the work done.
This little piece of Afghanistan also came out of his mouth. It would seem that not all the sores came from the wire. He still has several of these floating around in there. Every time they work in his mouth they find debris. We're hopeful they will continue to work themselves out and not cause future discomfort.
He got some new toys today too. This first pictures shows a device that Michael holds next to fabric and the machine tells him what color it is. No more having to guess about color or ask his mom.
This next machine is a bar code reader. He can scan a bar code on any product and it will tell him what the product is. If he wants more info, it even tells him everything about the product. No tricking him into buying a Coke instead of a Dr. Pepper.
And to top off the today's post, here's a shot of Michael at his banjo lesson. He's enjoying the challenge of learning to play. He will continue to get lessons for a while and looks forward to them as a welcome diversion from the normal routine. Thanks T.B.!
God Bless and I hope everything continues to be positive.
