This morning was a unique experience for the family and me. While it's not the first time we've been in front of a news camera, this was the first time we've turned it into a marathon. I also sat side by side with J.R. Martinez who is a spokesman for Operation Finally Home and won Dancing With the Stars a few seasons ago.
The crew showed up at 4 am to start setting their cameras, lights, and satellites up in the living room. Well, the satellite was in the driveway, you get the point.
At five the makeup lady showed up and powdered me all up like a girl going to prom.
It was weird to have makeup on I gotta say. At 6:30 we sat down and started the interviews. These ran, pretty much non stop, until around 10:30. Seriously, I think the longest break we had between interviews was 7 minutes. Really the worst part was that every interview was the same set of questions and the less talented anchors just read the script word for word so we just gave the same answers. It was fun when we got an anchor who tried to spice things up and make it interesting for us.
I was kept sane by the constant jokes and random outbursts from J.R. who, it turns out, is hilarious! This was the first time we've spent any real time together and he had everyone in the room laughing all the time. It was so much fun to do the interviews with him.
By now your probably wondering what we were talking about and with whom. Well the first question is easy, we were talking about Operation Finally Home and specifically the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition who donated the sprinkler system in our house. We talked about both organizations and raised awareness about home sprinklers and talked about how they work and how beneficial and useful they are.
We did a mixture of radio, television, english, and spanish interviews. Well J.R. did the spanish ones…I would scoot my chair just out of the shot and just stay quiet. Two in SanDiego, two in Dallas, two in Tampa, one in Brownsville, one in New York, one somewhere in Omaha, and so on. We ended up doing somewhere around 25 interviews one right after another.
Of course, there were a few local channels there and we've been able to track down one link online to share with you all. This interview was the only one that didn't follow the script and actually edited out everything about the home sprinklers which is the whole reason we were doing this but it is what it is. Watch the KSAT video.
Jesse got the kid wrangler job and deserves a medal. Sophie woke up at 4am when the crew showed up and was ready to be involved. During recordings Jesse sat in the back room with all three kids doing an amazing job of keeping them quiet. Almost four hours solid of sitting in a small room trying to keep everyone entertained with just a TV and her wits. Honestly, she is quite the woman.
Today is also our third year anniversary and even though the entire morning was taken up with interviews, the whole time I was talking I had her on my mind and couldn't stop thinking about what a wonderful woman and wife she is. These last three years have totally flown by and it's been amazing. Thank you Jesse for being my wife and I'm looking forward to forever with you.
P.S. We had Pro Cleaners come in yesterday and shine the house Seriously, they cleaned absolutely everything. I ordered Jesse some sweet orchids and chocolates too…it's amazing how happy someone else cleaning the house can make a woman. For those of you who aren't married, or are and may be slacking, keep that in mind.
