Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

The Dirt Has Arrived!

For about the last week our yard has been put on hold. The front yard is finished but the back has been waiting on top soil before the sod could be brought in.
Unlike last year, this spring has been extremely wet and rainy. The day they were originally going to bring the top soil in we got poured on and they had to delay a few days. The day before they were going to bring it again we got rained out. By Friday they were just going to deal with it but when they called the dirt people they found out that it was so wet they couldn't even pour the mud out of their trucks. It hasn't rained this much in the last two years here and, of course, it waits until now to do it.
We were also told they charge by weight so buying a bunch of wet dirt will cost us more than dry dirt which I suppose makes sense but doesn't make this situation any better.
Needless to say, when the trucks full of dirt pulled in our yard a few minutes ago we were all jumping for joy. So who knows how long it takes to spread dirt, then add on the sod and were finished!

The fence is coming along well too.. Right now they are setting all the cedar posts in the holes and building the gates. The yard is coming along very nicely!!   We're so excited!
