Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

I (do not) heart jet noise...

So here if a funny little story about Kadee. When we first got down here she was very interested in the jets flying all over the place. It did not take long however to develope a fear of those jets when she is supposed to be sleeping. Almost every night when we lay her down she will hear one and come running out of her room saying that she is scared of them.

We have tried to explain to her that they are completely harmless...at least to us Americans, and they are safe and just noisy. It works about until she hears the next one. We are pretty sure that this is going to be an ongoing battle but we do live on an Air Force base so hopefully she starts to get familiar with them before too long.

Jesse saw a sticker the other day at the store that said "I love jet noise". The love part was actually a heart but we started laughing when Jesse said we should get it for her and put one of those circles with the diagonal line through it like you see on the no smoking signs. That is much more fitting for little Kade. These kids are so funny.
