Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

Suzie Schwartz at the Retirement Ceremony

Mrs. Schwartz has been a huge help to my family and has been keeping up on us since the very beginning. As you will hear she would have loved to been within reach of my neck at a few points through recovery so it's probably best for me she wasn't.
We invited her to the retirement ceremony and she took the time to come out and spend the day with us and even come see the new house the day after. She is a wonderful person and we have been very blessed to have her in our lives.
Lisa, one of my sisters, recorded what Mrs. Schwartz said at my retirement ceremony and we wanted to share it with you all.
