Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

Ultimate Surprise!

One of the biggest surprises of our life! please click the link to view a video that the team from Ultimate Surprise at Yahoo created. We would like to take this time again to thank Operation FINALLY HOME, Tilson Home Corporation and all of the sponsors/donors for this opportunity that we have been given. Receiving a home is huge and we will never take it for granted.

Update: Since we found out about our home, we have gone in to finalize house plans and tomorrow we are scheduled to go choose how our home will be set on the land. After that they will take 2 soil samples to test and create the foundation to best suit the soil it will lie in. Hopefully in a month they will be able to start construction!
