Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

A small update...

Hey everyone! This is Jess, I just wanted to share the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation link; if you go to their main page they have an article from the CEO/Executive Director, Eliot D. Russman, and Michael is mentioned in it. There is a picture. :)  http://www.fidelco.org/

Hope you are all having a great 2011! We are having a fabulous time so far this year. A trainer from Fidelco is here with us and training is going great! Michael and his guide dog are doing well and the guide dog is fitting into our family well. We have a little less than week left of training and then the new team are on their own. We will post more info, dog's name, pics etc. when the training is finished. I just thought you might all like a little update.

Jesse
