Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

We have seen our house....finally!!!

Hi all! This is Jess! We are finally all back in town and decided to venture up to view our home. And man were we surprised! Holy cow! We came up over a crest and there was a big structure on our land! I was stunned. Tilson is doing such a wonderful job of getting our house up and they have been in contact with us since we couldn't make it up before now. We didn't go in because no one was there but we managed to get a few shots from the outside. I am so glad we went up! It was really good for Kadence because she keeps thinking it is either still land or it is done. To actually be able to see where her room is has made it more real and exciting for her. She kept wanting to go back and just stare into her room. :) Sophie was just happy being out of the truck and able to stretch her legs! We are very thankful for this blessing in our lives!

what will be our front entrance

 peeking into the girls' bedroom
looking through their bedroom into the bathroom and the baby's room beyond that
a shot from their room again out towards the living area
 our AWESOME living room windows!
looking into Michael's office through the dining area
our kitchen; the island will be where this structure is
Xxon was in heaven and already checking out the backyard
