Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

He is home!

Michael is home now and resting. He is in some pain but I think that is understandable. The doctor said that surgery went fine and gave us instructions on how to care for his ear. It will take a little while to heal and to see how well everything worked. We have heard really great reviews of this doctor so we are confident that everything will be fine. A big thanks to my father-in-law for taking Michael up to his surgery and staying there with him. Our family is such a wonderful blessing in our lives and I feel so blessed to be a part of the Malarsie family. We will keep you all updated on Michael's progress through this latest adventure. Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend. Happy Labor Day!

He almost looks happy to be in that gown again- maybe just happy to finally get his ear fixed.

Headed out the door and home.  (Where did that smile go?)
