Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

Day 5 and 6: More fun!

Friday we took some time to hang out with friends and go shopping...

messing around in the mall.

Day 6:

we tried out Ted's Montana Grill

with our friend, Ben Shaw

Ben and his wife, Lou at dinner. They are from Scotland and were invited over to attend the conference.
Ben was injured in Iraq a few years ago by IED.

we participated in an interactive spy game while we were in D.C. You had to go around with a group to complete a mission. It was pretty fun; half the group was blind so our wives ran around doing the tasks.

Sean and Melissa Johnson from South Dakota. They were part of our OPS group also. Great friends!

so this place is from the TLC show, D.C. Cupcakes. We stood in line here for about 40 minutes in the sweltering sun just waiting to get in and buy their cupcakes.

The Army guys I served with in Afghanistan were 4th ID
