Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

  1. Michael and Jess,

Our family will be moving to San Antonio this summer, and will be there for approx. 16 months. My husband is in the AF as well. San Antonio is a huge city, but perhaps we will run into one another. Our family attends the Los Lunas ward, and we will be visiting this summer before we travel to San Antonio. Maybe we'll see you in passing at church! Much love, and blessings,

    Saundra Taylor

  2. Michael,

I've been following your progress for over a year now and am really impressed with how you are coming along. You have the best support group anyone could ever ask for. I check this site daily and don't comment as often as I should but I would like to say Thank You for your service and your inspiration. Would also like to thank your family for taking care of one of my heros.

    Rick
