Michael was deployed from Fort Riley, KS to Afghanistan the first week of December 2009. He was stationed at FOB Wilson, near Kandahar. On January 3, 2010, while on a routine foot patrol, he was seriously injured by an IED. The same event claimed the lives of his Air Force companion and three soldiers from Fort Carson, CO.
This blog chronicles the events of Michael's life from his injury to the present day. He is now the author of this blog; is married, is a father and lives in Texas with his guide dog, Xxon. His injuries are now healed, he is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is planning on what to do for his next adventure.

Found it!

For someone who is totally blind, Michael has a true knack for putting his fingers right in the sauce first thing.  I love the look on his face! ha ha

Michael continues to push through learning the braille.  He is getting better at it and I can tell a difference.  He is quicker as he goes down the page.  Right now he is learning puncuation, period, quotes, colon, semi colon, comma, etc....

He is also learning to get more comfortable as he reads.  It used to be really hard for him to move down the line and move to the next line without loosing his place.  He used to have to sit at the desk in order for him to keep in place, then he was able to sit on the bed and still keep in place, and now he can read and lay on the bed.  It is amazing what we can learn when we take it one day at a time and don't give up.
